A december outing, what a day!

The winter months can be a great time to get out and see animals. Here is some pictures taken mid December mostly on the Oregon side, we boated across and did some walking on the Idaho side also.

Idaho moose hunt of a lifetime

Here is a view of the moose before he hits the ground. This is my 3rd trip to northern Idaho. I had not seen a mature bull before this trip. It had been over 6 weeks since I had been there as I was elk hunting and waiting for little Porter to arrive.

A shed from the big boy from last year (it is chewed down in several areas-a high mineral supplement for other critters)
A dancing sky in Lochsa country
One of the mid size bulls that I passed on
Funny story, I met this guy Dan about 30 minutes before this picture. I had not seen a soul the last 3 days up there. Dan came down the trail I was on. I was sitting off of the trail, looking at some cow moose. He was looking for Elk. I told him to jump in the ranger with me and we would go further down the trail. about 5 minutes later I see this bull on the side of a hill. I had seen very few moose in all my scouting and hunting trips up here. The bulls I had seen were not near this big.  Dan was riding with me 5 minutes and we saw this monster bull.
Dan was great help in the work after the kill. He is a retired surgeon from Lolo Montana.
Here is Dan with the moose after winching it down the hill.

The size of these critters is absolutely amazing. He was a Monarch of the North

I camped in this grove of gigantic cedars, they were awesome.

I stayed in Council Idaho on the way back. This is one loaded down minivan. It actually worked great. All the seats came out for a great bed in the back. Dry and warm.

Here is some video footage. I need to edit some language half way through- warning for kids.

Here is a monster white tail my Buddy and cousin Ryan Barker aka huntin professor shot this year.

A nice bull by buddy Kent Noethe shot with a stick and string- his son James holding the antlers
An awesome caribou Matt Peterson Shot this year in Alaska. Most people up north know Matt as BSTGUID short for Best Guide. He is the master of the Little su. check him out at vallyerrivercharters.com
Ok, real story on BSTGUID is that is the license plate of a fellow guide on the river that we like to give a hard time to.

This is Matt giving his hunting partner the universal sign of Giant Bull.

Rundown of the Fall 2012 season thus far

Moose Scouting trip in August on the Lolo Motorway out of Powell Junction Idaho
Taking the kids for a hunting trip
After a lot of missed opportunities I was happy to get this "11" Pointer
The decoy we call the hooker helped keep my cover.

Some curious moose on a scouting trip up North
This little bull wanted to go for a ride
Morning view over Northern Idaho, the smoke is from fires
A very close encounter with a momma bear and two cubs (who ran up the tree), I am about 10-15 yards away

Out with my hunting partner
The kids wanted a ride before I took the boat out hunting over Memorial day weekend
A cow kept me from being 15 yards from this bull, instead I was 100 yards and watched him walk by.
I was right on top of this bull several different days.

I got 20 yards from this bull, but a bush sat between us before his cows busted me.

I was almost home free for a clear shot and a twig snapped and he was gone.
This boy was napping, the cows busted me, I chose an exit route a cow that was with him took, If he went with her it was a 50 yard shot.
I should have perused this big boy more. I thought a bigger bull was with him, but he was the big boy. Check out those fronts, I gave him the name en do thinking he might fall over front wards with that front heavy weight.

My home a way from home
As usual, lots of bears

This big bull got spooked by a rare hunter before I could get close enough.

I watched this and an equal size bull chase each other around for a long time. I never could get close enough. He had a lot of mass and length.

a broken up 5x6 with who had a group of cows.

The buck I shot,4x4. my good neighbor Kevin Alleneder was a lot of help.

The best Prize I could ever hope for. Porter William Lindsey arrived 10-25-12

now its time to go do some Moose hunting.
